Summer Membership Update

Hello from OT-AAUP! We are excited to stand in solidarity with you this coming year.

In order for us to be the best and most powerful union we can be, we need a strong membership. For that reason, we need you to sign and return your membership cards to officially join the union!

Please sign and mail back your membership cards by August 31. If you are travelling and not able to send us the card by that date, but you still want to officially join, please reach out and let us know. Also, if you’d prefer to drop the card off in person, it can be returned to the mailbox of Terri Torres in Boivin Hall. You can also scan it and email it back to us!

A printable version of the membership card is available on our website here: https://oregontechaaup.org/join-ot-aaup/

Cards were mailed to the address we have on record for you earlier this summer. If you have not received one or it has gotten lost in a pile of icky mail, please reply to this email and we will send you a new card.

Additional Updates:

EC Update:
Your OT-AAUP Executive Committee has been hard at work this summer ironing out the details of how our contract will be enforced. This has included being a part of the re-opening committee, initiating our first Labor Management Committee, and researching a possible grievance. Should we follow through on a pending grievance we will need the strong backing of dues-paying members to show that when they take one of us on, they take all of us on!

OT-AAUP COVID Survey Results:
We have completed a summary of results from the survey OT-AAUP conducted among members about our confidence in the university’s COVID policies and reopening plan for fall. The results can be viewed here. Thanks to our members for conducting the survey and analyzing the data.

Oregon Tech Vaccination Attestation Survey:
Oregon Tech sent out a survey to employees on 7/6 and 7/23 about their vaccination status. OT-AAUP has reviewed the email and we have no objections to members completing this survey. Please remember to fill it out by September 1 for 12 month employees, or September 16 for 9 month employees.

Volunteer and Leadership Opportunities:
If you are interested in participating in OT-AAUP leadership this coming year, we would welcome the help! In particular, we are looking for volunteers in these areas:

  • Communication Committee
  • Membership Committee
  • Building Steward for Purvine Hall (training provided)
  • Portland-Metro Steward (training provided)
  • Also, officer elections for Executive Committee positions will be held this March for anyone who is interested in serving as a member of that group in the future.

Solidarity Event:
OT-AAUP is currently planning an in-person solidarity event in Klamath Falls for faculty and supporters for just before the start of classes. We will be sending more details as we have them, and would love to see you there supporting your colleagues and your union!

Thanks for reading all the way to the bottom, and see you in September!

Best regards,
Your OT-AAUP Communication Team

Executive Team
